Due to expected severe weather conditions, all New York City public school buildings will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 1, 2021. 

All instruction will take place remotely.  Please make sure your children still report for learning online.

Dearest Families,

We hope everyone had a good week and is staying healthy and safe.  Thank you for all of your hard work and support in getting through another week.  

For next week, for in-person learning, we have Cohort A on Monday (2/1) and Tuesday (2/2), Cohort B on Wednesday (2/3) and Thursday (2/4), and Remote For All except for Pre-K on Friday (2/5).  Random COVID testing will continue on a weekly basis.

Report cards will be released and should be available online beginning Thursday, February 4th, 2021.  We thank everyone in advance for your patience and understanding, as the electronic report cards don't always release or are made available online in time.  

If there are any changes or updates, we will let everyone know.

The deadline for the middle school application is quickly approaching! The deadline is Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

All families should have received a letter from the Department of Education with your child's PIN number (account creation code) via regular mail. If not, please contact me as soon as possible so that I can send/text it to you. Middle School Enrollment will be emailing all families who have not begun the MySchools application process a reminder to start and submit the application.

The middle school open houses and virtual tours are continuing to take place and, hopefully, you and your child are deciding on which schools to apply to and in what order to place them on your child's MySchools application. Please remember to place them in your true order of preference.

If you have already submitted your child's application, please disregard this letter. If not, please contact me as soon as possible if you have questions, concerns or need help creating an account, logging in, discussing middle school options, etc. I am here to help!

PS 130M - Schedule for January 25 - January 29

Dearest Families,

We hope everyone had a good week, and we want to wish everyone a restful weekend.  For next week, we are scheduled to have Cohort A on Monday and Tuesday (1/25&1/26), Cohort B on Wednesday and Thursday (1/27&1/28), and Remote for All on Friday (1/29), except for in-person Pre-K.  As always, if there are any changes to the schedule, we will let our families know right away via Operoo.

Weekly COVID testing will continue, and we will notify families of those who are tested afterwards.  We ask everyone to regularly check your emails on Sunday night, just in case there are any late-breaking announcements with schools closures and/or any other news or announcements.  If any families are informed of positive results due to testing, we ask that you please let the school know right away at office@desoto130.org.

Dear families and friends, We would like to welcome our new District 2 Superintendent, Mr. Kelly McGuire who will be beginning his new role on February 1, 2021. Below please find his Welcome Letter. __________________________________________________________ Dear District Two Community,   At this time of enormous challenge in our nation’s history, my thoughts are with those of you who have experienced loss over the past year. It is my hope that this new year will bring healing, both for individuals and families, as well as for our country. I am honored to be writing to you as the new District Two Superintendent. Please know that I am committed to strengthening our community so it is a support for all in this very difficult time. Having served in the district for sixteen years, I came to know many children, families, and school leaders and I had the privilege of being able to learn from so many of you. The opportunities I’ve had to watch our students grow, listen to families speak with love about the unique strengths of their children, and observe our District Two teachers engage in thoughtful teaching and learning have helped strengthen my understanding of how schools can best support children.    Our children and adults have experienced incredible distress and disruption after living through almost a year of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we consider how to support our schools toward a full and safe reopening we must define the kind of post-pandemic community we wish to establish. Paul Wellstone, the late United States Senator from my home state of Minnesota, was known for his saying, “We all do better when we all do better.” For me these words define community and declare that in order to “do better” we all must engage in a continuous process of support for each other. In the coming weeks I will be meeting with members of our community to hear about your experiences over the past year and your vision for District Two schools. I hope that many of you will join me in this work. Our goal will be to map out a strategy for applying what we have learned about teaching, learning, and strengthening relationships. As we work toward a full reopening of our classrooms we will ensure that our schools are equitable and inclusive spaces in which all of our children may thrive.    Despite these hard times you have demonstrated incredible resilience. The next year will bring new challenges, but we will work through them together. Adversity is much easier to face when done so with friends and family by your side, and I feel incredibly lucky to be rejoining the District Two community at this time. If you wish to be a part of school reopening conversations or if you would like to reach me for any reason please do not hesitate to email me at kmcguire@schools.nyc.gov .
