Minutes to PS 130M PA General Meeting October 8, 2020 


Attendance: Mr. Fong, Kaitlin Fuchs, Yanna Xu, Damian Driver, Kathy Leung, Lisa Wong, Yvonne Moy, Ms. Nicklas, General Committee (attendance sheet from 10/8/20)
Meeting Commence: 8:45 AM

1.  Principal Opening Remarks
     a.  Welcomed and thanked parents, assistant principals (PAs), PA, and Ms. Nicklas as interpreter.
     b.  Continuing our arts program online. Thanks to PA’s fundraising efforts.
     c.  The admin team (principal and APs) is always available to help.

2.  PA Updates by Co-Vice President: Kaitlin
     a.  Fill out meeting attendance
     b.  Introduce current PA Executive Board members then shared meeting agenda
            i.   Co-Presidents: Kaitlin Fuchs and Yanna Xu
           ii.   Co-Treasurers: Damian Driver and Kathy Leung
          iii.   Co-Secretaries: Stephanie Wong and Jaimie Gautier
           iv.  Events Coordinator: Lisa Wong; Program Assistant: Yvonne Moy.
     c.  PAs are overseen by the Chancellor
            i.  Member Status: Any parent who has a child in the school is a member of the “general
                 committee” and entitled to vote and run for office (typically after volunteering for at least
                 one year prior to running so to learn the responsibilities associated with each position.
           ii.  Term Limits: Each position is three consecutive one-year terms.
          iii.  General parent meetings are normally held every Thursday at 8:45 AM via Zoom.
     d.  Elections for the Executive Board for the 2020-21 school year will take place on October 19th at
          8:45 AM during a special expedited meeting.
            i.  All current board members are running again. Self-nominations are welcomed and a poll
                will be utilized if there are more than one person running for the same position. A motion 
                 to accept the current candidates will be held.

3.  Open for questions:
     a.  Mary Kwok – 5th grade parent
          i.  Question: What is the plan for graduation photos? 
              Answer: Any in-person gathering is still not allowed, including photos and 
              ceremonies.  Currently looking at different options: ex. Taking photos outdoors; 
              photoshop
         ii.  Question: How are participants selected for the Arts program? And how can we pick 
              up  equipment?
              Answer: School will send out notices and information on classes, schedules, and equipment 
              pick up.
     b.  Jayden Chan – 1st grade parent
          i.  Question: How can we pick up photos purchased last year? 
              Answer: Reach out to the PA or school with child name and class; package will be held 
              in the office for pick up. 
     c.  Question on Chat: Any information on admissions and testing?
          i.  Answer: Currently there is no DOE guidance on middle school admissions and testing, but 
              the school and PA will update families as soon as there are.

4.  Principal Closing Remarks
      a.  PS 130 is a Title 1 School – Which means funding is based on school meal (CACFP)
           applications (which have not been collected for many years).
      b.  Two Types of Programs: SWP: School-wide Program and TA: Targeted Assistance. PS 130 is
           under SWP, which means school programs are for all students. Equity is key.
      c.  The Arts programs will be held tentatively on Fridays.  Drumming and fife will remain suspended;
           NDI, Violin, Ballroom, Inside Broadway, RTK, and YPC will resume.
      d.  There will be additional time slots available for families to pick up items, such as math
           workbooks for offline practice, materials, etc.   Look out for the notices.
