Winter Offerings from Henry Street Settlement



Happy New Year from Henry Street Settlement! 

I’d like to take a moment to share with you some of our new programs that might be of interest to your school community.  

The Y.E.S.—Youth Employment Success--program is recruiting teens who have received a grade of C or below on their most recent report cards.  Students can earn up to $100/month to receive academic support, financial literacy training, work experience, and more. Jacob Riis Cornerstone Winter Enrichment for Teens--Our youth community center at 80 Avenue D offers free, unique evening and Saturday classes for teens. Students can become content creators, make their own videos, learn robotics or self-defense, and more! Registration is open for evening classes—please see contact info and QR code on the attached flyer. 347-964-3019

Free Arts Classes for NYCHA Residents--Our Abrons Arts Center’s spring semester is starting, and the NYCHA Arts Initiative is back, offering FREE group arts class for residents of NYCHA housing in zip codes 10002, 10003, 10009, and 10038. Discounts are also available for families earning under $50,000/year. Classes for all ages and skill levels are available in music, theater, visual arts, dance, and more—from Saturday morning cartoons to salsa, hip hop, and our Urban Youth TheaterClasses are under way at 466 Grand Street. EXTRA NOTE: Auditions will be held this Saturday, Jan. 15, from 2-4 p.m. for the Urban Youth Theater—a free program for students enrolled in a Spring 2022 class. While the program is free, students must be registered in a dance, music, or theater class at Abrons.

For Social Studies Teachers: Virtual Exhibition--Henry Street’s wonderful public historian, Katie Vogel, is giving virtual school tours of our permanent exhibition The House on Henry StreetThe exhibition tells the story of Lower East Side and social reform movements through the lens of settlement house history. Smaller groups are welcome in person to the exhibition.
