3. PA – Fundraising-
a. Co-President Joseph Li goes
over all the fundraising the PA does throughout the year.
i.
What
the PA does? As volunteers, we are a bunch of parents with nothing to do so we
fundraise for the kids and support the goals of the school administration… lol
We are really a bunch of parents that do work but we find the time to volunteer
because we believe in this school and its goals to enrich our children through
education and the Arts. They say it takes a village to bring up the kids and we
are the village along with all the parents and school administration attending
this meeting. The PA is here to support the principal’s mission and the vision
for the school. As we notice we have less kids now and the new budget is
limited due to enrollment. The PA is here to help support the new school budget
through fundraising. We fundraise for the arts and additional school needs. Which
we just did with our 1st bake sale of the year. We are also here to encourage a supportive
community for all the children.

10. Ex-Co-president Damian Driver
would like to say something.
a. Good morning, everyone, I was
one of the Co-presidents and I can attest on the art programs in the school; my
sons were involved in. Please support because its enrichment for the kids.
b. I’m up here because my kid
just started 5th grade and my other son is in SALK. There
is a petition in place in NYC – Advance & Accord program wants the DOE to
go back to merit and back out of lottery for middle school and high school
entry. Lottery is not fair; the system should look at merit and education. We
have 4000 signatures, and we are 180 off. We want to go back to the pre-covid
system. Nothing is ever guaranteed but its better than the lottery system they
have in place now for middle and high school entry. Go back to testing scores
instead of this no merit lottery system for getting into schools. There should
be EEC meeting, they are long, I know because my wife joins those meetings, but
you get a sense of the schools and what they are like. It’s good to know what’s
going on. Please sign the petition. The petition will be on the PA blog site.

13. Principal’s remarks
a. Thank you, PA and the
beautiful PowerPoint slides. I have a mood meter; I even keep mine in my wallet
to remind me, to help keep my emotions in line. We are emotional leaders in our
household. Its important to be aware of your emotions around kids. I have a
16-year-old and 6-year-old. When I ask how your day was, they say good or
great. It’s important to keep open communication especially with my
16-year-old. When we eat dinner, we put our cells away. Even if I check my
emails my wife will get upset. We used to read to our 16year old every night
till 10years old. We do that now with our 6-year-old. It goes by so quickly.
That’s a way to support the kid with open communication. Open communication is
so important, even with the teachers. Don’t wait till the end of the year to
communicate any concerns with the teachers. Our kids start at 8:30am but
teachers are here at 8am or earlier. In- person meetings are allowed again if
you have a vaccination card and sign in.
b. PA Website – Blog site – Yvonne
always updates it with events.
i.
PayPal
donations – the PA has one setup on the blogsite. I sometimes use it to make
donations to make sure my PayPal is working.
c. PS130m.org this is the school
website. Mr. Shi is not here so we update it occasionally. It’s not as updated
as the PA blogsite.
d. DOE website – schools.nyc.gov
e. With PreK we have 607
students. I started 9years ago as principal and we had over 1000 students at
one time. So, the PA really needs your / our support for the Arts programs.
f.
We
are a Title I school, to qualify we need to fill out a form. 60/65% of our
students qualify for free lunch. Because we are a Title, I school we get extra
funding for free school meals. There are 2 choices SWP – Schools Wide Program
and TAP – Target Assistant Program; our parents always vote to be SWP so that
all families can have free lunch.
g. Karen and Joe are also apart
of the Title I committee along with other parents who are also in the SLT
committee. SLT is the School Leadership Program which has monthly meeting once
a month. Its usually before the PA general meetings and afterwards there’s also
an executive board meeting after the general meeting. The PA board spends a lot
of time to support the school. Our doors are always open. We are a Blue-ribbon
school. We have the status, it’s like winning Miss America. We would not have
this status without the hard work and dedication of the school staff and the support
of the PA. Thank you Lisa, she has been with us for over 25years.
Damian Driver –
Donor’s choice is another way for us to support our teachers with their
personal class projects. When this is spread on social media other people will
donate.
14. Co-president Joe would like to hold a
nomination for 2 seats: for vice president
and co-secretary.
a. The seat for VP – Joe would
like to nominate Yanna Xu. Gloria Tsang and Alice Chen seconds that nomination.
6 people agreed. Yanna, would you like to take the seat as Vice president?
Yanna said yes. If there are no objections Yanna is now recorded into the Vice
president seat of the PA.
b. Any volunteers for the
co-secretary seat? There are no volunteers for the seat.
-
Parent
suggestion – in the next meeting please include what the role of co-secretary
entails.
-
Joe
– thank you, we will do that for the next meeting when we run the nomination
for the co-secretary seat again.
We need
volunteers for photo day Oct. 4 and the 7th – signup sheets are in the back.
Parent – Are we
still recycling printer cartridges? Yes,
we are, just bring them to the PA room. Thank you.
Closing time – 9:39am – next general
meeting is Thursday 10/6/22
