Please join us for some fun at the Halloween party. Parents join us for the lower grades. Kids in grade 2 and under would need a parent to join them to the party. Kids in Grade 3 and up do not need a parent to accompany them. If your child is in an after school program in the school, their afterschool teachers will bring them down to the party.
There will be signup sheets in the back for these events.
Parent suggestion- For events signup sheets, could it be posted on the blog site? Yes, we can do that on the side bar of the blog site so that the signup sheet would not get pushed down or lost with each new posted event.

Parent comment – The Third street musical school and Violin is not only limited to learning violin, but there are also additional instruments you can learn like the guitar. My child has been learning the guitar and its great! This has been an extra service that my child has been enjoying which is paid for by the PA funds. What is listed is the base of these Art programs being offered and it can be so much more that our kids are and can be enjoying, which is funded by the PA with the support from them and our parent community.

7. Principal’s remarks
a. Mr. Renny Fong – I was in meeting with the superintendent, meeting about schools in Chinatown. They had a meeting about middle schools. The superintendent wants to hear from the parents of Chinatrown on 10/18/22 at 6:30pm. Mr. Fong will have a meeting about what we think about middle schools. We will send out a note about it through Operoo. They really want to know what our community thinks about middle school entry. The meeting will be translated in Cantonese and Mandarin. They wanted to push up the date for applying for middle school but wanted to hear from us first. We really love our superintendent for wanting what district 2 wants and thinks. As Damian mentioned on our last meeting about merit verses lottery entry.
b. In November the parent teacher conference (PTC) will be remote. The kids will not get an official report card till January. We will give an assessment because we feel they need more time to give them grades. In January there is no official PTC but you can always contact the reach out for any concerns
c. Updates –
-
DESSA – is a 40 question to see how your kid is doing. If you want to
opt out, you have to write an email to me. This won’t be on your child’s record. Notices were sent out via Operoo. This year if parents want to take the DESSA they would have to write in to take it but it’s not available online yet so it’s a little confusing.
DESSA is automatic and the 40 questions are mostly based on how often your child speaks up or asks for help. The teachers will be administering it and it should take about 10 mins. I just wanted to let you know what it is. It’s also good for teachers because they can see and gauge the kids on how to work around their school needs.
-
Budgets – we were able to get a little more money for more students enrolled than we had projected.
-
Chess – Mr. Fong hates to ask the PA to pay for everything so the extra funds the school has will be able to pay for it. It costs about $15k for the whole school. Kindergarten to 2nd grade will have chess the first half of the school year and 3rd graders to 5th graders will have it the second half of the school year. Its about 10 sessions for semi annual season.
-
Dance to Unite for the 3rd graders, the PA will pay for it, we are also getting a donation to help fund this program from a student’s aunt. It costs about $7500 to $10,000, which we are getting a discounted rate.
-
I would like to thank the City council and borough president for donating money to the school so we can have these beautiful professional stage lights that cost about $100k. We are so fortunate that they love our school. Looking forward to having the kindergarten to 2nd grade roof renovated. The whole playground will be renovated in the spring and its an estimate cost of over $200k. Keeping up the partnership and support of our community is so important.
Any questions or concerns?
We are so lucky to have such great parents to help support us and our children.
The PA has worked to help keep our programs going and especially on picture day to make sure our students look good in their photos.
Closing time – 9:23am – next general meeting is Thursday 11/3/22
