Welcome everyone! Thank you for coming to our monthly PA meeting. Welcome back, it has been 2 weeks, our next meeting will be every 4/5 weeks going forward. But at anytime you all are welcome to come to the PA room, room 101, on the first floor, turn right once you come in at the front doors, past the playroom.

1. Upcoming events – October 2023
        -  Bake Sale – Wednesday 10/11/23
        -  Photo day – Tuesday 10/17/23 & Wednesday 10/18/23
        -  Cherrydale catalog – due 10/25/23
        -  Book Fair – Monday – 10/30/23, Wednesday – 11/1/23, Friday 11/3/23 and Monday 11/6/23.
        -  Halloween party – Tuesday - 10/31/23

        i.  The bake sale on 10/11/23 is next Wednesday, bake goods are donated from the teachers and parents for fundraising. During the bake sale we sell snacks like cookies, cupcakes, and whatever baked goods are donated. We are allowed to do this once a month, to sell food items during the day.

ii.  Photo days - its spread to 2 days, teachers will sign up for 1 of the 2 days and let parents know which day. Parents are welcome to volunteer, sign up sheets are in the back, or you can sign up in the PA room. Parents will be helping our children by fixing their hair and collars.

iii. Cherrydale candy sale are the small packages that were handed out to the children last week. This is one of our many fundraising events. Please help their children sell candy and the corn cutters, it’s due 10/25/23. The class with the most sales will have a pizza party.

iv. Book Fair – Parents are to help with our Scholastic book fair by helping us organize the books and help our children choose appropriate books. We have little kids who would rather buy toys and trinkets versus books, we can help steer them into buying books instead. You can help for an hour or 2; doesn’t have to be the whole day. It will be a lot of fun.

        v. Halloween Party – at the end of the month we will be having a Halloween party. Better order their Halloween costumes early, shipments might come in later than expected. The Halloween party will be on Tuesday 10/31/23 from 3pm to 4:30pm.

2.  Meet the PA board.
I’m Joseph Li – Co- President, my Co-president and our Co-Treasurer are out sick today. Our other Co-treasurer Alice Chen is in the back. Our Co- Secretaries are Lily Wai Lee and Amy Hu. Our Vice President is Ana Fung.

3.  Review of the minutes & Treasury reports from our last meeting in September 2023.
        i.  These are the minutes for review and to be approved from our last meeting in September; 12 people approved the minutes; minutes are placed on record and will be posted on the PA blog site. Thank you!

ii.  This is the treasury report for review and approval; 13 people approved the treasury report. Thank you! This will be posted on the PA blog site.
iii.  PA dues will be due soon, if you haven’t done so yet, please do so soon.

Here are some of the things the PA does to help fundraise for the Art programs.

4. PA Fundraising for 2023-2024
            -  Bake Sale
            -  Candy Sale
            -  Annual Ask
            -  Photo day
            -  Scholastic Book Fair
            -  Spirit Clothes
            -  Holiday show
            -  Benefit Gala
            -  Mother’s Day
            -  Handmade Bead Sale

If any parents have any ideas or suggestions, please let us know. We would like to make more money for our kids, for all these Art programs.

Lily – As a parent of a 4th grader, I didn’t know that all these programs were run and funded by the PA until I joined the PA this year. I’m sure most parents didn’t know either. All these programs are fully funded by the PA, that’s why we fundraise so much.

Jennie – I wanted to add and let the other parents know; some of these programs extend outside of the school. My son attends Third Street music outside of the school, for the 1st year it’s free and the 2nd year is discounted. YPC and NDI are also programs that go beyond the school hours. These programs aren’t just inside the school but also can extend outside of the school.

Joe – these programs are recruiters; they recruit kids from our school programs. There is a kid who went to PS. 130M who is now a Hong Kong super star.

5. More Fundraising
Joe – One of the PA’s biggest fundraisers is our annual banquet which is on May 17, 2024. Please save the date, if you are ready to buy tickets, please see Lisa. All these programs will be showcased at the banquet.

All the fundraising allows us to have one of the biggest Arts programs. See all these programs that we have, we have the most Art programs. Mr. Fong is proud of all these programs. You can ask other people; they won’t have as many Art programs as PS. 130.

Our Art Programs & est. costs (last year)
            -  NDI – 1st grade & 4th grade - $17,500
            -  Inside Broadway – Pre-k to 2nd Grade -$18,480
            -  Third Street Music School – Violin (beginners & Advance) - $10,880
            -  Ballroom Dancing - $9,520
            -  School Chorus – Voices of 130
            -  Spirit of PS 130 – Fife & Drum - $8,400
            -  Young People Chorus (YPC) – $8,650
            -  PS. 130 Lion Dance - $3,900
            -  Rosie’s Theater Kids - $8,650

The PA also pays for some of the school supplies such as:
            -  Air conditioners and repairs - $11,000
            -  Office copier, toners, computers, and supplies - $12,000
            -  Student appreciation events - $12,000 (we currently have 580 students)

This is why the PA fundraises so much and so hard, to cover all these extra things that the DOE has no budget for it. The PA covers all the school items other than the Art programs. Please ask your company to help us, ask them for donations as well.

Parent question- Is there a formal letter that can be sent for donation requests.
Joe – There is a formal letter that can be sent, please stop by the PA room for it.

Parent question – Asking if her kids have Third Street Music outside program?
Jennie – It’s a partner program and it’s not an individual program. They would have to sign up for it.

Joe – Another picture of the annual banquet, there will be dancing, dinner, raffles and so much more; it will be a lot of fun on 5/17/23. Lisa works so hard, and we can’t do it without her.

Principal remarks

Mr. Fong – Thank you to the PA. Some parents asked for afterschool programing. They asked for funding so maybe we can see if CPC can get more seats.

Mr. Fong – Middle school applications will be open next week. Ms. Levanoni will have an information session next Thursday. Voices do help because of everyone’s voices, 4 zones schools will have screened (it’s a specialized program, like G&T).

Operoo, please have this set up, all the messages are going out through operoo, if you’re having trouble accessing, please contact the main office.

Thank you for your support, thank you for being great families, my office is an open door. Please keep the communication open, you don’t have to wait for PTC (parent teacher conference) to talk to the teachers.

Parent question – Afterschool, the wait time?
Mr. Fong – What happens is, we ask for the budget, they must hire people, then notices go out and there is a waiting list. So, this will take some time.

Mr. Fong and Joe – Thank you for coming.

Joe – the door is always open.

Closing time – 9.30am – next general meeting will be November 2, 2023.
