Minutes to PS 130M General Meeting December 5, 2024

Attendance: Lisa Wong, Yvonne Moy, Amy Hu, Joseph Li, Lily Wai-Lee, Jennie Yin, Angela Mui, Ramiro, Michelle, Ms. Thomas, Alicia, Charlie, Alice Chen and 6 other participants (see sign in sheet, in person)

Meeting Commence: 8:45am Translator: Lily – Chinese translator

Joseph Li – Co-President

Joe – Good morning, welcome to our December meeting; Mr. Fong can’t attend our meeting today. We usually start with the principal but in place of the principal we have our Vice Principal Ms. Thomas.

Ms. Thomas – Welcome, Mr. Fong is at the principals’ meeting. He wanted me to convey Happy holidays! There is a holiday show on 12/18/24. We will see you all next week for the show. I will be here in the back for a little bit if there are any questions.

Joe – do we need any translations? Lily to translate in Chinese. This month’s agenda

Parents’ Association opening & Review.

Here are last month’s meeting minutes to be reviewed and approved. They will be posted on the PA Blog site.
  1. These are the minutes for review and to be approved from our last meeting in November; 8 people approved the minutes; minutes are placed on record. Thank you!

  2. This is the treasury report for review and approval; 6 people approved the treasury report. The Treasury report is placed on record. Thank you! Our meter is going up slowly because we have a short month.

        -  5th grade Ballroom Promenade - Friday, December 13, 2024
        -  Voices of PS. 130M – Holiday Caroling (school main entrance)
            Monday, December 16 & Tuesday, December 17, 2024
        -  Holiday show - Wednesday, December 18, 2024
        -  Parents association general meeting – Thursday, January 9, 2025
        -  22nd Annual Benefit Banquet - Friday, May 16, 2025

    These are the ongoing fundraising throughout the school year.

    -  Benefit Gala
    -  Mother’s Day
    -  Handmade Bead Sale

    All fundraising money goes to our kids and the art programs.

    We are looking for donations for our raffle prizes for our annual benefit banquet. Restaurant gift cards, unwanted gifts.

    A reminder of all the costs for all the programs for the schools. 

3. The PA Funds these Programs and more

    Here are all the costs of the arts programs the PA funds, as you see all the art programs are not cheap. All our fundraising efforts go             back to the school.

    Our Art Programs & est. costs (last year)
            -  NDI – 1st grade & 4th grade - $17,500. ($10k grant/ $7.5k PA)
            -  Inside Broadway – Pre-k / K/ 2nd Grade -$15,120
            -  Third Street Music School – Violin (3rd grade & Advance) - $11,060
            -  Ballroom Dancing - $9,520
            -  School Chorus – Voices of 130
            -  Spirit of PS 130 – Fife & Drum - $8,325
            -  Young People Chorus (YPC) – $9,080
            -  PS. 130 Lion Dance - $4050
            -  Rosie’s Theater Kids - $16,335 (Grant)
            -  Dance to Unite - $7500
      The PA also pays for some of the school supplies & special events such as:
            -  Air conditioners and repairs - $11,000
            -  Office copier, toners, computers, and supplies - $12,000
            -  Student appreciation events - $12,000 (we currently have 560 students)

Joe – the costs of these programs are over $100k and we also help with the A/C, copiers and ink toners to help and support the school.


Joe explains all the Art programs we provide. I will try to take more pictures of our events so that I can post them on the slide show. Wish I had more time to see the kids in all their art programs but I’m always in the PA room and getting things together and brainstorming.                                                                                                                                                                   

Ramiro – 12/18/24 -is the parent show, all parents are welcome to attend the show even if your child isn’t performing that day.

Joe - Jennie is willing to spearhead the Read – a – thon fundraising event, are you free for a meeting? Jennie – not today.

Lily – We will discuss it at the meeting and get the board together, get the teachers on board then we can ask Jennie to come to discuss how we can execute it.
