Attendance: Lisa Wong, Yvonne Moy, Amy Hu, Joseph Li, Michelle, Kevin Cheng, Tammy Yin, Moe, Ms. Thomas, Carmen, Yuki, Ana and 5 other participants (see sign in sheet, in person)

Meeting Commence: 8:50am

Joe – Good morning, did everyone sign in? Happy New year! Chinese New Year is coming.

Kevin – Agenda

Welcome Principal Mrs. Beena Thomas.

Mrs. Thomas- Hi everyone, I’m the interim acting principal. Thank you for being here. Can you believe I’ve been here for 12 years as assistant principal. Mr. Fong and started here together as he was principal and I was assistant principal and I am happy to continue to serve you.

A recap of events that took place – we had the D2 Coffee/ Conversation gathering. We had a good turnout. We welcomed our guests with lion dancing and ending the event with Voices of 130. Thank you to the PA for setting everything up. We talked about hopes and dreams. Thank you, Kevin, for including what the district sent into the slides. The biggest things they mentioned were safety, academics, social & emotional health, enrichment, and afterschool. Here at PS.130M, I think we do that. Thank you, PA., for getting and supporting all our enrichment programs we have. We are grateful as a school to have all these art programs.

Testing dates are out – The State ELA test will be on 4/14/26 and 4/15/26 for grades three to five on the computers. The State Math test will be on 4/28/26 and 4/29/26 for grades three to five. The DOE Science test will be on May 12th for 5th graders.

NYSESLAT will be on May 5,6,7; it’s still on paper and this test will be for English language learners. It’s estimated that about 120 – 125 students will take this test.

We got an email regarding our NY State accountability, it’s based on last year, all of D2 got LSI – which is in good standing. We don’t want to be in the red or yellow (where the state gets involved) In the green – it means the kids are doing good (where we would get local support). Rest assure, we are doing well.

Thank you.

Joe - Reading and approval of minutes and Treasury reports, upcoming events. Parents’ Association opening & Review.

Here are last month’s meeting minutes to be reviewed and approved. They will be posted on the PA Blog site.

  1. These are the minutes for review and to be approved from our last meeting in January, 11 people approved the minutes; minutes are placed on record. Thank you!
  2. This is the treasury report for review and approval; 11 people approved the treasury report. The Treasury report is placed on record. Thank you!

We have 4 more months to meet our goals.

Thank you, Yuki & Carmen, for helping with Read-a-thon to bring in more funds while encouraging our students to read more.

Kevin – 4 months, hopefully we will make our goal- $30k on average to reach our goal, with your support hopefully we will get there.

Yuki – what’s your biggest fundraiser? Joe – we get sponsors, our banquet.

Kevin – Every month is different- our annual banquet is our biggest; our door is always open for new ideas and support.

Carmen – Hi, last year we started a program the PA sponsor the fundraiser to promote reading. We pass out reading logs. Our goal is to have the students get pledges for their reading time. They can ask their parents, family members, and friends so that they can win prizes. Top fundraising class will get a YAYA tea party and the class with the top minutes read will get a pizza party from Grand Street Pizza. Top student fundraiser will get a $25 Yaya gift card, and the top 3 readers will get Stuffies blind bag from Anime Claw, there is also a participation raffle as well. Lower grade parents can read to their child and that would count towards their minutes read. Last year it got competitive. Any questions

Yuki – the mystery reader – this is to support the teacher regarding this event, if the teacher wanted someone to read to their class. A parent could also donate to the class.

Parent – how do they log in their minutes?

Carmen – they all receive a paper packet with a reading log. We hope everyone will be honest. Thank you.

Joe – I know other students who also sponsored their friends, my daughter donated last year. I believe we raised about $6k.

Carmen – last year everything was short notice, and it was on a shorter span of time.

Kevin – these are our upcoming events

Upcoming events – February 2026.
