Minutes to PS 130M General Meeting March 5, 2026
Attendance: Lisa Wong, Yvonne Moy, Amy Hu, Joseph Li, Michelle, Kevin Cheng, Tammy Yin, Alice, Moe, Ms. Thomas, Carmen, Yuki, Ana and 7 other participants (see sign in sheet, in person)

Welcome Principal Mrs. Beena Thomas.
Last month, we had 2 days of great performances by our talented PS 130M kids for the Lunar New Year shows.
A special thank you to the PA for hosting the Lunar New Year staff luncheon for the teachers and faculty.
Thank you to the 5th grade lion dance group for marching in the Sunday Lunar New Year parade.
We are waiting on budge updates from the State regarding class size reductions.
At the SLT meeting held earlier that same day, the SLT team discussed possibly changing and revamping the PS 130 website. Times are changing and we need to try to stay current. We need to broadcast all the great things that happen at PS 130. The website is the first thing that people check.
Social emotional learning at school. For the past 7-8 years we have employing this approach at the school. We’ve employed tools such as the mood meter and promoting a book of the month. For book of the month, we select a book that highlights something we want the kids to focus on. We select a book and give a copy of it to each teacher. The mood meter was Mr. Fong’s baby - which centered around how could one get to another color to feel better? The book of the month focuses more on critical thinking. The book of the month for March is Planting Stories which tells the story of the first Puerto Rican librarian, Pura Belpre, in NYC. The story is not only about Ms. Belpre seeing needs around her, but her doing something about it. The story imparts on the children to think critically and to solve a problem. There are various themes in the harmony units - 1) Being my best self; 2) valuing each other; 3) communicating with each other; and 4) learning from each other. We are currently in Unit 2.
Carmen – this would be a good thing for the new school website.
Kevin – Lunar New Year events. The luncheon was a way to thank teachers and staff. Food was great. Thanks to Lisa and Yvonne for organizing. As for the performances/shows, thanks to Mike and Moe for putting movie together. The Lunar New Year parade was featured on ABC7. We received a shoutout from Mayor Mamdani.

We are hovering around 40% of our fundraising goal. The read-a-thon fundraising amount was not factored in.
Costs of Arts Enrichment Programs

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM 2024-2025 EXPENSES
We need to work hard to ensure these programs continue. We need your support to bring up new fundraising ideas.
- Veggies to go – Food Pantry at PS 130M – Thursday, 3/19/2026
- 23rd Annual Benefit Banquet – Friday, 5/15/26
The monthly bake sale is scheduled for Wednesday, 3/18/2026. Please drop off donations on Tuesday, 3/17/2026 or early Weds. Morning, before 7:30am, so the PA has time to prepare and package the baked goods.
The PS 130M 23rdAnnual Benefit Banquet is scheduled for Friday, 5/15/2026. Parents can donate prizes to be raffled off.
Parent Question – What events can parents volunteer for?
Answer – we would love assistance for the upcoming food pantry event.
