Minutes to PS 130M General MeetingJune 15, 2026
Attendance: Yvonne Moy, Lisa Wong, Amy Hu, Joseph Li, Michelle, Tammy Yin, Moe, Kevin Cheng Ms. Thomas, Ana, Carmen, Yuki and 20+ other participants (see sign in sheet, in person)
Meeting Commence: 8:50am
Joe – Welcome to the last meeting of the school year. Today is a special meeting because of nominations and voting in the new PA board members for the upcoming school year.
Carmen – Hi everyone, my name is Carmen, I’m on the SLT and I’m here to help run the elections. We have 2 positions for each, President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Anyone who would like to run could self-nominate and add their name to the ballot. Anyone? No one… VP positions will be elected in the fall when school starts.
Parent – do we have members at large?
Carmen – we don’t have that, but we welcome volunteers.
Can we have all the candidates come up to speak for 1 minute and tell us why they are running for their position.
Co- president candidates
Kevin – My name is Kevin and I’m currently the Co-President; my kid is in kindergarten. We have grown to love this school, grown to love our board. I’ve learned a lot this year being on board. If I’m on the board, I can bring more to the board.
Moe – Hi, I’ve been here, my kid is in 3rd grade. You’ve seen me around with flowers with Carmen & Yuki; parents have come to me to ask for help. I have been Vice president for a year. I believe the school can improve with parent help. Ive been meeting with Ms. Thomas. I’m from Burma and raised in Japan.
Joe – Do I have to introduce myself… my kid is graduating but I still have a nephew here, so my cousin put me as his guardian. Thank you for your support, you know how I am; so, vote for me.
Tammy – Hi, I’m Tammy; I have 2 daughters and I’m also a PS. 130M graduate myself. This school is very near and dear to my heart. I’m currently Co-secretary and I’m happy to serve at my caliber. I look forward to working with everyone.

Amy – Hi, I’m currently co-secretary, I have been on the board several years. I have a graduate and a second grader. I’m here because I like to keep all the paperwork inline.
Vanessa – Hi, I’m Vanessa and I have 2 kids, a 3rd grader & one in pre-kindergarten. I have not been on the board, but I’m happy to help out.

Alice – She is not here but she has been on the board a s treasurer for a couple of years.
Angela – Hi, I’m Angela; Ive been on the board for a couple of years now and I have a second grader & another child that is not elementary school age yet.
Carmen – Thank you candidates, you may all cast your votes now.
Ms. Thomas – This has been a week, tiring but exciting because the Knicks took home the championship. I see a couple of Knicks fans here. I’m lucky to be here to help support our school for our students. I’m grateful to be a part of a school with so much support. Budget wise, we did not get the extra funding this year to support smaller class sizes, but they did not take away the funding they gave us last year to support smaller class sizes. They extend the smaller class mandate from 2027/2028 to 2030 to be incompliance. Some of our classes are smaller by nature due to enrollment. When I started there were 7 kindergarten classes that were full, now there are 3. Last principal meeting is tomorrow at 3:45pm, here at our school. We are meeting to talk about low enrollment and how to fix it and to gather to help the needs of our community. Please come to help support us. Graduations are coming up for our 5th graders, kindergarteners, and pre-kindergarteners. Happy Ms. Tam, Emily’s mom is running for the board to help our school. Thank you.

Here are last month’s meeting minutes to be reviewed and approved. They will be posted on the PA Blog site.
I. These are the minutes for review and to be approved from our last meeting in May, 16 people approved of the minutes; minutes are placed on record. Thank you!
II. This is the treasury report for review and approval; 18 people approved of the treasury report. The Treasury report is placed on record. Thank you!
We have only reached about 80% of our fundraising goal, unfortunately we didn’t meet our goal.
Kevin – we still have a week left of school, its possible we could get close to it.
III. Budget – to be approved – 17 people approved the budget.
Kevin – the budget is a little lower this year, even with inflation.
Joe – we try. Just to clarify the PA board members do not get paid, we are volunteers.

We are always open to additional fundraising ideas. Any new ideas can be added as a fundraising source. All fundraising supports our art programs and more.
Here is a slide featuring photos and video clips of some of the children’s performances from the various arts enrichment programs.
We need to work hard to ensure these programs continue.
We need your support to bring up new fundraising ideas.
Joe – For this year’s annual Banquet we fundraised $96,000 after expenses we raised a total of $72,000. Thank you everyone who helped make this happen.
