We volunteer easily 10 to 15 hours a week and much more during holidays and peak fundraising events. All Board members must be able to learn and be in compliance of  A-660 and we are here to support the visions of the administration for the school.

8.      Principal’s Remarks

a.     Mr. R. Fong – Thanks Damian and Ms. Niklas for translating and the PA for their support. Let’s give a hand to all the board members does for our school. My son does not attend PS. 130 but I have not seen so much volunteerism in any school PA. Thanks to Lisa, Yvonne, and the board and their countless hours.

b.     This week is teacher appreciation week. I’m so lucky to work here because I wake up and I just think I’m so lucky to have such great teachers, parents, and kids.

c.     If I can make it through summer rising this year it will be my 25th year here, I’ve been here since 1997.

d.     Summer rising – sorry we have no control over this, they gave us 300 seats this year and within 20 minutes all the spots were filled. P.S. 130 was open to all the schools. Everyone wants to come here. Thank you for making its such a good school. The 300 seats are filled by some P.S. 130 students, and some are all over, even some from Staten Island.

i.                  There were only 8 schools in District 2 and only 2 schools in Chinatown that are open for Summer Rising. P.S. 2 had 500n seats and even those filled up fast. They had more seats due to them working with more CBO programs such as YMCA, CPC, etc… Getting a seat for summer rising felt like trying to get tickets for a concert.

e.     Thank you everyone for supporting our Benefits for the Arts, it brings so much joy & social development.

i.                 Today I’m dressed up because at 11am ABC will be here to interview me for “Dance 2 Unite”. They will be filming in our auditorium. Dance 2 Unite used to be an afterschool program but this year we have it for all the 3rd graders. We partnered with them for social development along with dance. ABC is following Dance 2 Unite because they are talking about bullying amongst other things in life.

ii.                Before you leave you can see the 3rd grade classes in the auditorium.

f.        Thanks to parent’s support and suggestions on Impact Coach Network (ICN)They had a big competition and won the Manhattan cup for P.S. 130. It’s the first time for us and they will be bringing it in tomorrow; its like the Stanely Cup. Thanks to Sally and other parents for bringing chess back. My goal is to bring it to everyone. A 2nd grader competed in Chicago in the Nationals and won 3rd place – Go Dragon of P.S. 130.

g.     NDI & Ms. Bradford was invited to perform for the Chancellor & Mayor for AAPI Month.

h.      More in person events to come to see how hard our kids are working.  We have NDI with the 1st graders on 5/18. Due to covid numbers going up again, only 1 parent would be allowed. NDI 4th graders is a fundraisers event on 5/17 at 6:30pm.

i.         There was an event for APEX for Youth – a mentor program, they were able to raise 1 million dollars in 20 minutes. That’s the convenience of PayPal and links to show how much people are willing to show their support for the students and its really about networking and who you know. At this Apex Gala I ran into one of our old students, Carmen Li, she’s a mentee. She was presenting an award to Aileen Goo, the Olympian that was born and raised in American but represented China. This all starts from programs and the Arts from P.S. 130. Aileen is only 18 years old, and she bought her mom and dad and por por (grandma) to the event. It was touching to bring her family support and showing appreciation to her parents.

j.         At home Covid Testing kits – we just got 2000 more kits, the kids will get 4 test kits to use as needed.

k.      Thank you everyone for your open communication; the last 2 years have been difficult, but we are navigating it together.

l.         Tomorrow is our Mother’s Day sale. Lots events coming up and to get ready for this month.

m.   The health fair is this Saturday, if it rains it will be held indoors in the playroom with all the windows and doors open. We had to open a permit to close Hester Street that’s why we cannot change the date.

n.      Thank you, Ms. Nicklas and everyone.

Closing time: 9:39am

Next General Meeting:  Friday, June 3, 2022, at 8:45am
